A very Sola Panel survey (Lionel Windsor) Lionel Windsor

Lionel Windsor

One of the things we're doing as we wrap up the year here at Sola Panel is to ask our contributors to share some of their highlights for the year from the world of reading and the web. Here's Lionel Windsor's contribution:

  1. Three best Christian books of 2009:

    • Peter Brain, Going the Distance (AUS | US)
    • Brian Rosner, Beyond Greed (AUS | US)
    • The Collects in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer: My wife and I prayed through them over breakfast!
  2. Top stretching theological read of the year:

    • Doug Moo, The Epistle to the Romans, chapters 9-16
  3. Best fiction of 2009:

    • Bill Bryson, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid
  4. Best non-theological non-fiction of 2009:

    • April Wilson, German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German: It does exactly what the title says.
  5. Favourite Matthias Media release of the year:

    • Broughton Knox, The Everlasting God (AUS | US): I was introduced to it a long time ago, and am very glad it's been released by MM.
  6. Best website(s) discovered this past year:

  7. Three best sermons or other audio downloads heard this year (individual talks or series; could be from preachers you hear locally, and not just the overseas heroes):

  8. Most memorable article(s) you've read this year:

  9. Book of the year and why:

    • Isn't this question repetitive? See 1, 2, 3, 4? wink

Although first published in 2008, Tim Keller’s book, The Prodigal God should be on your list and widely recommended to Christians AND non Christians. I could say heaps about his book, but one thing is that it’s a great reminder to be patient with elder brothers we know in our churches who don’t know that they are elder brothers yet. This book is also a great way for all of us to see where our hearts really are in the story and be reminded of God’s grace by providing Jesus himself as the fattened calf.
