You mentioned James 5:16-17, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
I just wanted to add that this text points out a healing that takes place when we share our sins with others who can pray for us; I’m sure that’s where you were going with confession being good for our souls. I, then, think it’s possible to be forgiven of sins by God and in a right relationship with him, while still carrying so much guilt and hurt as a result of those sins that we haven’t been fully healed.
So it’s necessary to confess our faults to another child of God, in order to experience a healing we were already trusting had taken place. I wonder if part of what we’re needing is a physical demonstration of forgiveness from a friend or loved one, in order to “feel” the forgiveness of God, and be healed?
