And if we must be inspired by great ones, let’s make sure they really are great.

Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”  (Luke 21)

For he grew up before him like a young plant,
  and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
  and no beauty that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by men;
  a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
  he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (Isaiah 53)

Peter, at last some common ground between us!

“Apparently life is not about establishing human beings in their own petty kingdoms, but about bringing them into God’s kingdom.”

Well, common ground at least to 50% of this statement! - being the first part, but not the second part.

I would re-phrase this as:

“Apparently life is not about establishing human beings in their own petty kingdoms, but about realising the kingdom of God is already here.”
